Client: City of Westminster
Sector: Public Realm
Following an international open call in 1999 to design a landmark sculpture for the City of Westminster, PearsonLloyd argued that an improvement to the streetscape would be a more worthwhile contribution; it designed a pragmatic new street lighting product that would help to brand Westminster as a modern, forward-looking 21st century city, and won.
PearsonLloyd’s street light delivers an alternative to the low quality engineered systems and expensive Victorian reproductions that dominate the street lighting market. It forms part of a modular system developed by the designers: the lower section of the lamp column – a triangular extrusion with an integrated fixing system – is designed to take various accessories, including signage, waste bins and seating, besides a range of different lighting fixtures.
