Cozmo HUG

What is comfort?

Hug is a brand-new, high-back modular sofa system developed through Human scale experimentation with tactility, comfort, posture, and style.

Designed by Hand

Hug was designed by a process that focused on the tactile sensation of materials such as foam, feathers, and steel. It’s about the feeling of comfort, of sitting supported and of being held, and also about welcoming the sofa into your home, building it with loved ones, and caring for it over time.

The design process for Hug began with physical 1:1 model making, deliberately preceding traditional methods like CAD and sketching. Materials were intuitively folded, wrapped, and adjusted to explore various postures. Form and function emerged side by side, shaped directly by the body’s interaction with the material.

Inspired by Bauhaus steel framing

Pearson Lloyd’s design for the Hug blends architectural clarity with everyday practicality, recognising the sofa as the heart of living spaces. Inspired by Bauhaus steel framing, its precision-welded foldable frame is strong yet lightweight, enabling flat-pack delivery and easy, tool-free assembly.

Comfort comes from foam and feather-filled cushions encased in removable covers (Jackets) that can be replaced whenever a change is desired. Every material is chosen for longevity, while the ergonomic design ensures a personalised, lasting experience.

Architectural clarity with everyday practicality

Bringing 25 years of ergonomic expertise — from office chairs to aircraft interiors — Pearson Lloyd shaped every curve, seam, and surface through hands-on model making, creating a sofa that supports how bodies move, rest, and restore.

Cozmo’s philosophy of modularity and customisability underpins the design: components are serviceable, and covers are interchangeable, empowering customers to adapt and extend the life of their sofa as their needs evolve.

It was incredibly refreshing to walk into our first concept meeting and not be shown renders or sketches. Instead, Tom and Luke took us straight to the workshop, where a Frankenstein-like wooden structure with moving parts immediately sparked a conversation around comfort, support, and ergonomics. Our brief focused on high backs and lumbar support, and this hands-on approach felt like the most natural — and obvious — way to begin, even though it was entirely new.
