Modus PLC Studio

A light-touch work chair to address how people sit and move in shared, flexible environments

At its core is a simple observation: postural change supports focus. The chair is designed for shorter periods of individual activity within shared spaces, where people move frequently between tasks rather than remaining fixed.

This thinking is expressed through a clear and accessible design language. The chair is immediately legible, with a form that invites use without instruction.

Visually, PLC Studio has a strong graphic identity, defined by clean lines and rounded silhouettes. The softened seat and arms create an open, approachable design that allows easy access in and out of the chair, while a slim steel frame provides structure.

Supports short-duration, active use with the essentials of ergonomic comfort

A tilt mechanism below the seat provides controlled, familiar movement, allowing the body to shift position naturally during use. This is paired with a backrest mechanism developed with Modus, which pivots in response to the user while maintaining consistent lumbar support.

When unoccupied, the backrest returns the chair to a neutral position, ensuring visual order and readiness in shared environments.

Height adjustment is integrated discreetly into the seat, allowing intuitive operation without additional controls. Each element is resolved to support ease of use, durability and consistent performance across high-turnover settings.

Sits between casual seating and traditional task chairs

It is designed for more active, shared workplace settings, where users move frequently and do not require the full adjustment or visual complexity of task seating, but still need reliable ergonomic support.

By reducing both mechanical and visual complexity, the chair offers a more accessible alternative for contemporary workplaces, where boundaries between focused work, collaboration and informal use are increasingly fluid.

Designed for longevity and efficient use of materials

A design-for-disassembly approach allows components to be separated, replaced and recycled, supporting repair and refurbishment over the product’s life. Reduced material use further lowers environmental impact.

Recycled polymers are incorporated into the moulded foam, certified to ISCC Plus standards for traceability. The foam contains no halogenated flame retardants, while finishes are water-based with low VOC emissions. Powder coating contains no added PFAS.
