For Lufthansa’s A380 fleet, Pearson Lloyd has delivered a brand new business class cabin utilising the Vantage XL seating platform by Thompson Aero Seating. The project centred on applying Lufthansa’s new brand language to a mostly pre-certified product, allowing the programme to move at exceptional speed without compromising design, brand, comfort, or performance.
Lufthansa A380 Business Class Retrofit
Exceptional design delivered at speed
Targeted design
By working within the constraints of an existing platform, the design focused on carefully targeted interventions rather than wholesale reinvention. Custom materials were developed for the feature lighting pattern and console top, alongside bespoke industrial design refinements to the seat shell and wing geometry. These elements enabled Lufthansa’s premium brand expression to be clearly articulated.
CMF as a carrier of brand identity
Colour, materials, and finishes play a central role in translating Lufthansa’s values of quality, reliability, and precision. Hard and soft elements are carefully balanced through the use of textiles and foils, with a palette grounded in Lufthansa’s classical blue and extended through texture, weave, pattern, and tonal variation. The result is a confident, recognisable Business Class environment, delivering all-aisle access, a fully flat 2-metre bed, and 68 seats per aircraft, completed in a timeframe that stands out in an industry where delays are increasingly common.
